Our Heart For Community

A HOME FOR CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IN THE ARTS

What is Australian Christian Arts?

Australian Christian Arts Limited is a vibrant community of Christian artists and performers in Sydney, and a registered non-for-profit with the ACNC.

  • Australian Christian Orchestra: A full symphony orchestra comprising Christian musicians from diverse denominations, performing both sacred and classical repertoire with excellence and spiritual purpose.
  • Australian Christian Choir: A dynamic vocal ensemble that brings together singers from various church backgrounds, creating powerful musical experiences through choral works and contemporary Christian music.
  • Australian Christian Productions: Our productions branch, facilitating all our events with the Orchestra and the Choir.

These three pillars work together to create a comprehensive artistic community where Christian creatives can thrive, serve, and grow in both their artistic gifts and their faith journey. Whether performing individually or collaborating on larger productions, each group maintains high artistic standards while prioritising spiritual growth and authentic community.

A Weapon in God’s Hand — Breaking What Divides

We believe Australian Christian Arts has been positioned by God as a kingdom instrument — not of destruction, but of divine disruption. In the spirit of Jeremiah 51, where God says, “You are my war club, my weapon for battle — with you I shatter horse and rider, chariot and driver…” — we have seen God use this ministry to break through the walls that divide the Body of Christ.

In a culture of fragmentation, God is using us to:

  • Break the divide between denominations, calling Catholics, Pentecostals, Anglicans, Baptists, Orthodox and independents into unity — not through compromise, but through shared worship and community in Christ.
  • Break the divide between artists and the Church, showing creatives that they don’t have to choose between their gift and their faith — they can use their creativity for the glory of God in the context of Christian family.
  • Break the divide between generations, raising up young people to walk and serve beside elders, forming friendships and spiritual family across decades of difference.
  • Break the divide between the Church and the unchurched, through welcoming, Spirit-filled events that invite the lost into the warmth of community and into the arms of Jesus.
  • Break the divide between rich and poor, city and suburb, by building one body — where a violinist from the eastern suburbs and a flautist from places like western Sydney share the same music stand, the same purpose, the same faith.

Like the weapon in Jeremiah’s vision, we are not passive — we are active. We are not spectators — we are participants in the Spirit’s work to undo division and rebuild unity in the Church of Australia.

We are called to be part of God’s reforming work — not by force, but through beauty, truth, and belonging.

Community That Breaks Down Barriers

Whether on stage, in rehearsals, or sitting in the audience — what you'll see is unity. A Church united in purpose, even in diversity.

  • Our orchestra and choir include people from all major Christian traditions — Catholic, Pentecostal, Anglican, Orthodox, Baptist, and more. People who may never worship together on a Sunday are now serving side-by-side every fortnight, praying for one another, sharing meals, and becoming like family.
  • Our audiences are just as diverse — often with entire church communities attending together. They see people from their own and other traditions worshipping and leading together — and it stirs something powerful: hope that the Church truly can be one.
  • We are building bridges — not walls. The way we gather is a quiet but bold declaration that Jesus is the centre, and His people are stronger when we come together.

We're not just building an orchestra — we're building the kind of Church community people long for. United. Generous. Spirit-filled. Together.

Community That Welcomes the Lost

We've seen firsthand how the arts create a soft landing for the spiritually curious.

  • At our concerts, people encounter beauty, meaning, and the presence of God — and they're often moved to tears. Many have prayed the sinner's prayer after events, choosing to follow Jesus for the first time. We follow up personally and help them get planted in a church community through our Church Finder Quiz.
  • We also welcome non-believers into the orchestra and choir — and time and again, we see walls fall. Many come for the music, but stay for the warmth, the people, and the sense of belonging they can't explain. For some, this is their first experience of Christian love. For others, it's a slow return to the faith they left behind. Either way, the door is open — and they are welcomed in.

We don't pressure people to believe. We simply invite them into community — and let the Spirit do what only He can do.

Mentorship That Flows Naturally

Within our musical family, beautiful mentoring relationships blossom organically, creating deep bonds that transcend age and experience.

  • Our experienced musicians naturally take younger members under their wing - sharing not just musical expertise, but life wisdom and spiritual guidance. A senior violinist might spend time after rehearsal teaching proper technique while sharing stories of God's faithfulness in their artistic journey.
  • These relationships deepen naturally through shared practice sessions, where discussions flow freely between musical interpretation and living out faith in the arts world.
  • What begins as musical instruction often transforms into spiritual mentorship, with pairs meeting regularly for prayer, sharing meals, and walking through life's challenges together.
  • Many of our younger members have found both artistic mentors and spiritual parents, while our experienced members discover renewed purpose in nurturing the next generation of Christian artists.

Through these organic mentoring relationships, we're seeing God knit together a multi-generational family of artists who grow together in both skill and faith.

Community That Gathers and Grows

Every fortnight / month, 100 people from all walks of life gather — not just to rehearse, but to reconnect, refresh, and realign around what matters most.

  • From 17-year-old percussionists to 75-year-old violinists, we model what intergenerational community looks like — shared vision, mutual respect, deep care.
  • From the poorest streets to Sydney's most affluent suburbs, we gather as equals. Status falls away.
  • From different churches and even different languages, our members unite with one voice — literally and spiritually.

These gatherings aren't just about art. They're about formation — of character, faith, friendship, and purpose. Members say it often feels more like a life group than a rehearsal. And that's exactly what we want.

A Safe Home for Christian Artists

The arts world can be isolating — especially for Christians.

  • Many artists feel they must choose between pursuing their creative gifts and staying rooted in their faith. We say: you don't have to choose.
  • We provide a safe, Spirit-filled environment where musicians and singers can express their faith, explore their calling, and grow in their gifts — without fear of compromise or compromise of values.
  • Through mentorship, prayer, and worship woven into our rhythm, our artists are not only protected from the pressures of the world — they are discipled to shine within it.

We're raising up creatives who are not just technically skilled — but spiritually grounded.

Community That Extends Beyond the Stage

We're intentional about creating real relationships, not just working relationships.

  • Members regularly meet outside of rehearsals — attending each other's churches, sharing meals, helping each other through hard seasons.
  • We've seen people find friendships, accountability, and even faith renewal — not because of programs, but because of the Spirit of God moving through a faithful community.
  • This isn't just "fellowship." It's family. People don't just come to sing or play — they come to belong.

We believe in community that sticks. That sustains. That outlives the concert season.

Community That's Sustainable and Scalable

We've built this movement in Sydney on the foundation of faith, passion, and volunteer leadership. But for it to thrive long-term — and grow — we need sustainable investment.

Our model is already bearing fruit. But with the right support, we can:

  • Strengthen our foundation — providing pastoral care, leadership training, and core operations to keep our community healthy and accountable.
  • Scale our impact — by planting similar communities in other cities and states, using the Sydney model as a blueprint.
  • Provide long-term pathways for artists to stay involved year-round, not just during events.
  • Develop deeper partnerships with churches, helping them integrate the arts into their own mission and outreach.

We are here for the long haul — and we're building something that lasts.

Community That's Ready to Multiply

The next chapter is already stirring. We're launching a Youth Orchestra and Youth Choir — dedicated spaces where Christian teenagers and young adults can find identity, purpose, and community through the arts.

  • In a world of confusion and isolation, we want to offer a safe place to belong.
  • These groups will be discipleship-focused, not just performance-based.
  • Young people will have space to be mentored by older musicians, form friendships grounded in faith, and discover that their gifts have eternal purpose.

This is more than a new initiative. It's legacy-building. It's the next generation of Christian community, ready to rise
